We took a short cruise downriver to Burg Rheinfels, whose remains still crouch like an old stone bulldog high above the river.

Rather than hike up from the village at river level, we rode the little train.

Much easier on the legs!
The best part was when 3 of us took flashlights and explored the tunnels, formerly dug and packed with explosives ot protect the one flat field beside the castle.

Finally back at our B & B, we just hung in the garden. We were so tired!
