Day 4 Versailles Aug 1, 2010

Last night we picked up our van. We'd be driving for the next two weeks. (So far we've been on public transpor- tation.) Here you see it parked in the court of our hotel in Versailles, which was originally a stable of the king.

This morning we left Paris and headed out to Versailles, the fabulous court of the French Sun King, Louis XIV. Every king in Europe envied this palace, and smaller versions were built all over Europe.

In the picture you see the famed Hall of Mirrors. Mirrors were a great luxury at the time this was built. Also, the Treaty of Versailles, ending World War I was signed in this room.

Marie Antoinette had a pretend village behind the palace, where she could play with her perfumed sheep and pretend she was a country girl. Everything in the little village is gorgeous, just Disney- perfect.
